How to be a good senior caregiver

Many people think senior caregiver is an easy and boring job. That shallow verdict may make you are confused about being a senior care agency and try to make up your mind. So here are something about senior caregiver you should know. 

1/ Senior care qualifications 

Like every other careers, you need to spend time on training before working. There are some senior services organizations provide senior care agency training programs such as Home Instead Senior Care, Caregiver Support Services, etc. You can find a lot of senior traning program on the Internet. The important thing is you need to know what kind of senior caregivers is suitable for you. You need to ask yourself some questions like what kind of old persons you want to work for? Do you want to work for home oldsters or work at senior center? Do you want to work for disable seniors, chronically ill oldster, alzheimer’s diseased old person, etc.?

Then, you can figure out what kind of senior caregivers you want to become. 

2/ A full heart for old people 

Good senior care qualifications are not enough to be a good senior caregiver. You also need something more than that. It is a full heart for old people. Senior caregiver is an exceptional job. If you don’t have love for elders, you will feel miserable to become a senior caregiver. It’s a very wrong thinking when you do something just for money. You need to love what you do. Or at least, you feel satisfied about what you do.

With a full heart for oldsters, you will feel happy when work as a senior caregiver because you know that you do a meaning work. It will help you overcome “dark times” in senior caregiver career. Sometimes, you feel so tired and impatient, the love for old people will help you endure it and keep doing your duty. 

3/ Life balance 

The other thing you need to care about is that your life. When you feel so exhausted and maybe have some kind of depression, stress, etc. and you feel like you have no enjoyable for this job as you used to, that is a signal of overworking. That is the time you need a long break. You should respite your duty as a senior caregiver and have time for yourself. Do everything you love to do to restore balance in your life. When you feel peaceful and calm in your mind, you can go back to your job.

However, you shouldn’t let youreslf go to that breaking point. You should take a short break time (about a half hour) everyday. Remember, you just can do the good things for other people when you do it for yourself first.
