Quit Smoking

What Happens When You Quit Smoking

What occurs when you stop smoking is a commonly addressed question in the doctor’s office. The reason is that many people are curious to know what will happen to their body. What is it that smokers have to look forward to and how is the best way to deal with what will happen down the line as a result of no longer smoking?

If you are researching this question, then it is likely that you are on the correct track. It is better to be prepared and unprepared as it prevents any shock that you may feel when you quit.

Within 24 hours of smoking your final cigarette or cigar, you body will be on the process of “homeostasis” or in simple terms, your body begins to get balanced. For example it is likely that your heart beat will drop or normalize.

Quitting now will impact on your body of the remainder of your life. By quitting, within 5-15 years, your risk of stroke will be the same as someone who has never smoked.

Also within 24 hours of quitting, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood stream will go back to normal.

Now quitting smoking should take on additional importance in your general health plan. I believe that regardless of how much anyone has smoked during their lifetime, they can quit for good. Through determination and the desire for a long and healthy life, anyone can do it.

Always remember to use the correct tools. Without the right tools, it can be so easy to give up. Do your research. And remember, your partner or children will all benefit from your choices.

After quitting smoking your body goes threw a detox period if you will, and yes the coughing and the chest congestion are part of this process. Do not be alarmed if you begin to cough up all kinds of things, this too is normal. Just remeber to those trying to quit the first thing you need to ask yourself is do you really wanna quit, and if you don’t then trying is useless.

I started taking Chantix on Saturday, March 20, 2010, and I smoked my last cigarette on April 7, 2010. I dont even crave it. I think about it after a meal, then think of something else to do with my hands. I smoked for 39 years, and loved smoking, but now I am free!!!

I quit at first by using the patch. After two days of that (and a few bouts of nausea) I stopped cold turkey. That was 7 day ago today. Sure It was hard and I’m still fighting the urge, but it’s not as bad as people tell you. I was a smoker for 20 years, If I can do it so can you.
What made me quit is my 11 year old son asked me to stop..for his health and mine. I made a promise that I would stop as long as he never started! I’m free baby! FREE!!!!!
